Jeff, who received his Master's Degree in music at the University of Victoria, BC, is a music performer, performance artist, a production manager and technical coordinator for local arts organizations. On top of his long list of creative endeavors, he can re-create a simple toy into a new and sound worthy musical instrument. He is looking forward to Zed Access, which is a show at Paved Arts in Saskatoon, where he will be projecting interactive video generated from circuit bent toys. Near the end of the summer, he will be traveling to Montreal, Toronto and Stratford for a series of performances.

Your clothes seem to all have a story attached to them. I don't buy clothes, I collect them. If it is nice, it isn't good enough. They have to have a good story. The undershirt was given to me by a friend of mine, because she though it matched my green eyes. That inspired a series of t-shirts I made that were all green. I have twelve identical green t-shirts that I made for myself.

How did you start making your own instruments? In grad school while working in the electronic music lab. They had a saudering station, so I just looked at my little toy keyboards one day, and thought “I wonder what is inside.”

What will the next instrument be that you create?I have another drum machine that has some potential. But I never really know what they will be until I actually make them. My process of circuit bending isn't scientific, I just open them up and start trying stuff.

What is your favorite toy? I really like gyroscopes. I also really like magnets.

Considering you are not originally from Regina, how did you end up making the move to the Queen City? I came here because I had a gig with Neutral Ground and a gig with Carrie Gates in Saskatoon. I used to live in Saskatoon, but I didn't want to go back there because that would make me as big as one city. And the gallery scene her is so big, that I can work in all these different places. My wardrobe changes where I live also. It was pretty grey in Victoria, and brown when I was in Saskatoon. Right now I wear a lot of green.

Your style? Personal, curated and metro.

In the upcoming year, Melanie will be busy working on an ongoing project at the Loggie Shoe Building. She will be part of the arts incubator, which will include working with a fashion collective called Seams Radical, that will be transforming the building. Part of the upcoming plans include a retail space, studios and a facility to provide art classes. Aside from her collaborations, Melanie will be creating jewelry, painting, and textile works while looking forward to the show she curated at Crushed Grape.

How did this new studio space come about? Marian Donelly brought us all together. She approached different types of artists working in different mediums. Eventually there will be a recording studio, arts related business as well as the fashion collective.

What is your favorite type of artistic medium to work in? I don't have a favorite. It is whatever medium that best expresses the idea. I really like painting because I find it very immediate, compared to textile work which is very process orientated. Although there is something to be said for something that takes a long time in the process that I like.

How did you become involved in felting? I went to the Kootenay School of Arts, Craft and Design in Nelson BC. It was just something that I really enjoyed the hands-on process of it. It is a process that not a lot of people are doing, especially within textiles in Saskatchewan. So it is important to me to share my craft with others, just to keep it alive.

If you weren't an artist, what do you think you would be doing instead? Probably traveling. I collect a lot of things, including art supplies, so my load becomes a lot heavier. But Regina is still gifting me with a lot of opportunities so I stay here, instead of travel.

What is your favorite thing to collect? I really like small precious things that have memory to them. For instance, this necklace that Cara De Gennaro made for me, is a collection of coins that my brother gave to me from Palestine and a stone my friend gave to me from Grasslands National Park.

You definitely seem to have your own individual style. How would you describe it? City country. I just realized that growing up in the country with a lot of influences, but I also went to school here in the city. So it was kind of a cross influence.

I love wallpaper.

Marilyn moved into her Cathedral home about eight years ago, and with her passion for fusing art and community quickly became involved with the Cathedral Arts Festival and the Cathedral Area Community Association. In her professional life, she works with vulnerable people and bringing healing to communities. When you combine her professional work, the Cathedral community family and her three kids, Marilyn, as her mom would say, is “blessed with the abundance of the joy, art and creativity of every day.” She’s also been blessed with minor fame, as her eclectic home has been profiled on the CBC lifestyle/design program Stephen & Chris.

You have had a few television camera crews visit your home because of its creativity. How did it all come about? When I moved into this house, I set out to make it out to be a happy place. I didn’t have much experience with decorating and painting but was taught by a loyal group of friends. And this home has become an opportunity for those who might not have that ability in their own space, for example to write on walls and try different paint colors. This was kind of my mid-life crisis — going wild with the paint colours and glue guns!

Do your kids enjoy the house? My kids have come to terms with “Mother’s projects.” Once in a while they will say “NO Mom!” But they saw the episode on Steven and Chris — which I was hesitant to do because [the show is usually about] upscale Toronto lofts — by Chris starting the segment saying that this was his favourite house on “House Proud” ever. Whatever tendency towards embarrassment or thinking ‘Mom’s a little strange’ went out the window, and it was OK to think outside the box.

What is your favourite piece in your home? Probably the baby pictures of each of my kids. I also love the artwork I have from Jana Kutarna that was used for the Cathedral Village Art Festival, as well as from other Regina artists.

How would you describe the style of your home, compared to your own style? My home is “down home comfort,” with much of my furniture from second-hand shops. And my style is very basic, with punches of colour!

What is your favorite colour? Sky blue pink!

Sâkêwêwak Storytellers Festival

Sâkêwêwak Artists’ Collective, Regina’s premier presenter of contemporary Aboriginal art, is pleased to announce the 2009 Sâkêwêwak Storytellers Festival.

First held in 2001 as the Distinguished Storytellers Series, the Sâkêwêwak Storytellers Festival has evolved into an annual multidisciplinary festival that presents a diverse array of renowned storytellers, artists, and academics from around the world, who engage our audiences in contemporary cultural expression, thought and dialogue derived from our oral traditions.

Opening the festival on the 18th of March at 8 PM at New Dance Horizons (2207 Harvey Street) is our music and spoken word event featuring local artists Ramses Calderon, Gabriel Yahyahkeekoot and others. On the 19th, we are pleased to present two brand new performance works – The Rebirthing Project by Cecile Brass, and Apple by Simon Moccasin. Both performances take place at New Dance Horizons, starting at 8 PM. Admission is free for all events on the 18th-19th.

Friday, March 20th features Picimawak - an evening of words and rhythm in a gathering of contemporary criers from the global camp brought together by festival music director Eekwol. Hear the true voices of well-known Indigenous rappers and poets from each of the four directions, including Urban Buffaloes (Hobbema First Nation/Vancouver BC), Skeena Reece (Vancouver BC), Wab Kinew (Winnipeg MB), and El Vuh (Los Angeles USA). The event begins at 7:30 PM at Reid Auditorium – Scott Collegiate. Suggested donation of $5.00.

Saturday March 21st features features My Life is My Sundance, a play based on the book of the same name written by Leonard Peltier, with Harvey Arden. The play begins at 7:30 PM at Reid Auditorium – Scott Collegiate. Suggested donation of $5.00.

Saturday the 21st and Sunday the 22nd feature day sessions held from 10 AM – 5 PM at the Regina Inn – Kenosee Room (1975 Broad Street). These day sessions feature presentations and roundtable discussions from our community’s most respected storytellers, traditional knowledge keepers, artists, activists and academics. Organized by Edward Poitras and Robin Brass. Admission for the weekend day sessions is free and lunch is provided.

The MacKenzie Art Gallery is looking for new vendors this year. If you are an artisan and looking for a new way to get your name out there, and make some moola, this show and sale is the perfect opportunity. They have some cool new plans for this year, and it looks like it will be a pretty busy event.

Leif and The Professor

If you are a fan of the 13^th Avenue Coffee house, Leif just may have served you your Saturday afternoon cup of jo. When not working, he has been playing with Rah Rah, and is looking forward to hitting the road with the band in May to tour Canada. In the mean time, and when this hits the news stands, he will be enjoying February in a Trinidad beach house with his wife Ali and her family, while celebrating their grandfather's 90^th birthday.

Tell me about The Professor. Well, Ali (his wife) didn't want a cat for a while since she used to be allergic, so every night I would set up the laptop and YouTube “baby kittens.” And Ali would be falling asleep saying “They are so cute!”. And then one day when I was working on Corner Gas, I need to go and look for certain things and I had to go to Victoria Vet. I saw this kitten, who had a broken leg, and fell in love with him in a second. Ali met him and thought he was awesome. We have had him ever since, and he has grown on us dramatically. He just jumps on my back and hangs out.

Anything in your closet that you will never throw out? I have a plaid shirt that I really like. Ali and I were walking on Canada Day about five years ago and I got it at Uforia. It is Spiderman colours. If I stay the same size, I will probably wear it till I die.

How would you describe your style? Awesome. No, but for real, I think I have grown into my own style. It is not going to change. I was wearing the same thing, cords and plaid shirts, when I was six years old. I like jeans, plaid shirt, toque, scarf and a nice pair of mittens. And I do really like shoes. I buy a pair of checkered Vans about every two months.

Into anything new lately? I like a really bad show right now, called Angel. It has everything you need. A universe that is unreal, but they don't break the principles of the universe. It is totally like Star Trek but campier. There is love and love triangles and it is funny.

Music you are listening to right now? I like Michael Gardiner's music and I am really into Q-Tip right now.

Any past band you wish you could have been part of? Fugazi in '89!

A stunning and beautiful mix of Cree, Assiniboine and black, 32 year old Sophie has a pretty great life with two young children, a new fiancé and a beautiful pony. All of whom she would quickly describe as “deadly and awesome”. Anxious to finish up her maternity leave, Sophie is looking forward to getting back to work and her upcoming summer wedding.

How did you get involved with ponies? When I was twelve my parents took me to the Royal Red Horse Show. I watched it and thought is was cool. I went walking though the barns afterwards, and started talking to a woman who was riding. She asked me if I was riding, I said no, and she said I should start and never give up. And I was like, “OK!” And then I joined the Pony Club in White City.

Tell me about Tara. Tara is my third pony. She is five. A warm blood cross and a jumper. She is sweet, and she is in love with me. She totally mellows me out. It is a very expensive sport and a huge responsibility. But this is my sanity.

Do you want your children to become involved with horses and ponies? Yes. My daughter is totally into it now. She is going to start in the spring. If I go out to the barn and then come home and give her a hug, she can smell it on me and will say “Mom, you went to see the ponies didn't you!”.

Do you ever bring the youth you work with out to the stables? That is my dream. I need an acreage and horses and I want to be a therapeutic riding instructor for at risk youth. I did a bit on White Bear, and it was awesome. It might not happen until I am sixty, but that is my absolute dream. To have a job like that, and be around horses 24/7, I would be in heaven.

If you had to describe you kids in one word, what would you say? I can't for the little dude. His nickname is Mr. Happy Fun Guy. I am going to make sure I screen all of his girlfriends. And Meika is pretty funny. She is really creative, smart and intodetails. She will probably be a CSI or something like that. Paz (her fiancé) and I want both of our kids to be nerds. So hopefully she will just be really into horses!

It was a busy night.

A design graduate from the Alberta College of Art and Design, Danielle Tuchelt and her husband packed up their belonging and work last year and made the big move back home to Regina. While leading the newly harvested design studio, COMBINE, she also has been busy working on their new home just outside of the city. When not doing the clean work (design) or the dirty work (the new house) she is always up for a solid day of movie watching or a sleep over dance party with her husband's 13 year old step-sister.

In regards to your new house, what are you most excited about?
Having it finished! I've been staring at pictures of interiors, making inspiration books, and lists upon lists for over a year now. Right now it's still very much a construction zone, so I'm excited to have an evening of relaxing on the couch with a bottle of wine and admiring all the work we've done.

Decorating style of your house?
It's pretty mixed including everything from the kitchen chairs I snagged at a garage sale, to my new danish-modern coffee table, to vintage map drawers. My husband, Kris, and I are trying to make a lot of things so we can design them ourselves, make them unique and functional to our space.

What inspires you in regards to graphic design?
Smart ideas. When the design form and function marry together in a neat little package which happens so clever you curse yourself for not thinking of it first

How would you describe your style?
Simple. I'll blame it on being a designer, but I'm not much into accessories or fanciness. I like solid colours, clean lines and just the right cut to make it unique. I have a philosophy when it comes to clothes - I have to love it (and I seriously ask myself that when I'm trying it on) to buy it.

Something you can't quite seem to throw away in your closet?
There's this shirt. I would be embarrassed to show it in its full glory to anyone. I bought it many years ago from Value Village. It's been cut up, stained, ripped, re-sewn, but somehow it works so well under other shirts, just so you can see the bottom of it. If I could find a replacement, I might be able to get rid of it....maybe.

Tell me something new you have recently learned.
I am not the only person I know who loves watching the movie Blue Crush.

Winter in La Belle Province

Hi. You haven't heard from me in awhile.

Just wondering...at what point can you start dreaming about spring? Is it now soon enough to spring that you can actually start planning for its arrival (ie, can I order a sundress from J.Crew yet?).

I'm really finished with the indignities of winter. The ridiculous drapings and layerings necessary for survival, and the ways in which those drapings can ruin an outfit. The static cling. The chapped lips. The fact that I have to fold myself into a ball, hedgehog-like, while in an underheated, drafty, (but nonetheless charming) Montreal apartment...luckily this is not my apartment...heat is very efficient, and is included in the rent. My horribly unattractive (but unbelievably warm) winter coat, which makes me look like a 40 year-old mother of 3.

Winter in Montreal does, of course, have its sweetnesses as well. The other day I saw the following 3 scenes on my beloved streets:

-a man, bundled up and struggling through a snowbank while clutching a menorah
-3 people, bundled in sweaters and scarves and dancing to Stevie Wonder in a cafe (dancers included a girl who works there) near my place
-a woman pulling a sled down the street that contained the following: bagels, an Italian "panettone" (cake-like thing), and a 4 year-old child. They use a lot of sleds here. Very practical, actually.

Their website just makes me happy. Every thing about it.

The MacKenzie Art Gallery's newest exhibition, Projections: A major survey of projection-based works in Canada, 1964 - 2007, opens on Feb. 14.

A little about the show - "Projections is the first major exhibition in Canada to focus on the rich history of experimentation with slide, film and video that characterizes contemporary art from the 1960s to present. The works in this exhibition exemplify why projection—using light, slides, film, video, and television—has become such a compelling medium."

Thursday Night Live!
March 5, 2009, 7:30 p.m.
As an exciting addition to this month’s Thursday Night Live! program, filmmaker Berny Hi from the Saskatchewan Filmpool Co-operative will be on site (with a collection of cameras) to lead visitors in photo-making using various techniques and styles. Visitors can come and conduct their own photo shoots of themselves and their friends with various types of cameras – for free – while enjoying the music of one of their favorite local bands, Library Voices and Rah Rah. Visitors will be encouraged to come out with their favourite outfits and accessories and be ready to jump into the Filmpool’s Projections photo studio!

Originally a hair stylist, and the first to introduce Aveda to Saskatchewan, Traci Foster is also a working actor. She has written and performed five different pieces of work, and she also teaches breath, body and voice work for relaxation and rejuvenation. This upcoming year she will be working on a new performance piece and will be heading to Los Angeles to study and work for a few months. This Christmas, she is going to try something new and enjoy some simple rest and relaxation.

What is your new project about?

It is all very preliminary, but basically accumulating the seconds since something significant has happened that has have to do with violence, and then taking one step at a time (for each second) with as many people as we can, to start realizing and resolving these issues.

You travel a bit for work. Where has been your favorite place to visit?

L.A. I love everything about L.A. I love the creative energy and the sense of creative spirit. I love being in the midst of likeminded people. This really means nothing more than an eclectic diverse range of human beings. I feel normal there. I love the studios that I study at. They are like a godsend. And the shopping! It never stops! At any moment you might meet someone whose label you are wearing.

The pieces that you are wearing today are from a diverse mix of shops. Is that something you try to do when creating your style?

Yes, unless I am in a bad mood, then I dress monochromatic. I really think of clothing like art. I pick and pull from wherever. And I like to support local stores, like Aria. A lot of what is carried there, are independent Canadian designers. And I like to buy things that are designed or manufactured in Canada. Also, I have come into color just this last year. And all of a sudden, literally, I cannot get enough color. And the less coordinated it is, the better. It feels truly like I found my own style.

What is your favourite piece of clothing?

My favourite piece I have ever bought, I haven’t purchased yet. But I am hoping soon, that it will be a Sarah Pacini sweater. I can envision it in my closet.

Can you give me one word each to describe your style and yourself?

Bright! And strange.

WHO: Santa Claus, the jolly old man with the big sack of gifts. WHEN & WHERE: Stopping in at The MacKenzie Art Gallery Holiday Celebration. CLOTHES: Vintage red and white couture, designed by his elves.

Always looking good in red and answering to St. Nick, Father Christmas and, most recently, Yo Fat Man, our trusted friend is always in good spirits this time of year. Since we were young, he has kept tabs on our naughty or nice factor. And now that we’re adults and we (probably) don’t even leave cookies and milk out for him anymore, we know he still might leave us a little something under that sparkly tree. (Don’t worry about the milk; he’s become lactose intolerant over the years.)

How are you feeling with it being so close to your busiest day of the year?

Stressed. And of course with the coalition government stuff, I don’t really know which provinces it’s safe to land in.

Where is Ms. Claus today?

Oh, baking cookies of course. She has been busy booking our trip to Jamaica; we leave on the 26^th of December. So she has been preparing by doing her Pilates and spinning classes.

What is your favourite Christmas movie?

It’s a Wonderful Life. That or Smoky and the Bandit.

How many elves work for you?

Well, with being unionized, it goes up and down. But I would say around 2,500. In real people height, that would be 1,500.

What do you suggest we not leave under the tree for you?

My mother-in-law’s cooking, anything from last year, or beans.

What’s the worst Christmas you’ve ever had?

It would have been the time a 375-pound person came running across the room and landed on Santa’s lap.

Do you ever get to hang out with the Easter Bunny at all?

Oh yes! I hang out with him and Jack Frost quite a bit. Jack and he are always getting into the shooters. He’s the worst one when he gets into the sauce a bit too much.

What do you dislike about Christmas?

The greed.

I just need to take a moment, and talk about my new favorite thing. That is, my new favorite thing, for this week.

When I was about 18 or so, I had this pair of striped men's pajamas. And I loved them. They were warm, comfy, and just plain old awsome. They are still in my box of things I can't quite throw away. Although I think I am missing the bottoms. No idea how I just lost just the bottoms.

So, anyway. On Saturday I decided that my Halloween themed pajamas are out of date, and I needed a new pair of pj's. I was looking through the women's stuff, and everything was just dumb. Stupid designs, too frilly, and just blah. Not my thing. So I headed over to the men's department, and low and behold...all my lovely memories came flying back. I picked up a nice pair of flannel plaid pj's. And they were $13. You can't beat that.

Since then, all I can think about on my way home...is getting into my new jammies. I LOVE THEM! Even though I wake up sweating, since it is a bit too warm for flannel right now...I don't care. I have found my perfect winter outfit. I am even wearing them right now. And, if I ever grow a penis, I have a built in opening already in place. Now, who can beat that!

Since it is almost time to retire her much loved Schwinn Cruiser for the winter, Alexis is planning on buying her first pair of cross country skis soon. Given that winter is her most hated season, she is hoping to find a hobby that she enjoys enough to get her through the season. But there is a good chance that her January trip to Cuba with her family will help her get through it.

First things first. You always have great hair every time I see you.

My mom and grandma have always been very conscious about how their hair looks. My grandmother once said that it doesn’t matter how nice your clothes or outfits are put together, if you hair doesn’t look nice you outfit isn’t complete. And I love getting my hair and nails done.

I noticed all the bright colors you have on. Do you like wearing bright colors?

Everything in my wardrobe is black. It is a sea of black. I used to never wear any color but it was never meant to be “Goth”. I hate Goth. It is my most disliked trend. But pink is my new favorite color, although black will always be my base.

Tell me about your tattoo.

It is the Day of the Dead skull surrounded in flowers. I lost someone close to me five years ago, and although I love flowers so much, receiving flowers as a condolence was rough. Flowers are beautiful to me again though and I am ready to put them back in my life. And I love the mix of flowers and the skull. I have always loved mixing things that normally wouldn’t go together.

Would you say mixing different things together is part of your style?

I like to look nice, although I need to keep in mind that I could be unloading forty kegs for work. So I try to be functional. But I love girlie things. I love pink and makeup. I paint my nails every single week. I love that kind of stuff. BUT, I am not soft like a flower that is for sure. I love everything girlie, but I don’t think I am a lady…quite yet.

You have been working at the Owl for ten years now. What styles do you think have been most prominent?

No matter what comes and goes people still wear sweatpants. And they just shouldn’t. On guys, I LOVE the moustache! And I love the fact that with moustaches, men are doing the grooming the same way women have to do with their hair and eyebrows. There is this one guy who has a modern moustache that is killer. Overnight, he has gone from attractive to handsome.

Every payday, I treat myself to a frappaccino and a new magazine. Not unlike most days, but let's not go there. Anyway...I came across this magazine, picked it up, and fell in love. I have been sewing and stitching quite a bit lately, but every magazine I look at is too foofoo or just plain boring. But this one is modern, and geared towards a younger audience. And there are like 5 really good patterns in it! Bonus!

So, if you are into sewing/craftings/stitching/design/designers or anything similar...I definitely suggest you head to your local magazine shop. Like now.

A rock ’n’ roller at heart, most of Jonah Krieser's days and nights are consumed by either making or playing music. This November, Jonah and his Ghosts of a Modern Man band mates will record “the greatest album ever that will make you shake your ass”. Following the release, they will be touring “the shit out of it” in 2009. As for 2010, Jonah has a lot more planned — plans which may be bit too explicit for our more delicate prairie dog readers.

What does style mean to you?

I think style is completely owning what it is that you enjoy. I think it’s being confident in whatever is it you are trying put forth, style-wise. It’s what you want to present to people.

Who do you think is the most stylish rocker, dead or alive?

I don't think it is just one person and I think style changes all the time. But I like Nick Cave, PJ Harvey and Karen O.

Who is the first person that comes to your mind who really owns their style?

Michael Jackson. He is a complete total freak, but a genius who did his own shit. Another would be Prince.

In regards to music, has there been a style you wish never existed?

Rick Astley. Modern country music, or country music for the past 20 years.

Do you see anything coming back into style?

I would say the ’50s. But if you ask me, the ’50s are always in style. I think the really good styles from the ’50s will always be timeless and classic. Anything from the ’50s to mid ’60s, but mixed with badass street shit or trashy whatever it is we are doing now.

How would you describe your own style?

I definitely take a lot of influence from the ’50s. Some days I will look in the mirror and think I’m dressed like Jail House Rock Elvis. And when I’m 80 yrs old, I will be wearing the same shit I am wearing now.

Danette Exner, who has been teaching for nine years now, is looking forward to this upcoming year. Over the past summer she was part of an art project which addressed issues of violence against women, girls and families, and was produced into a workbook which will be launched in November. She is also excited about traveling to England with her students in the spring and working on her own art this winter. When not working she likes to spend time with her friends and family. Being the oldest of five sibling, she is sometimes quite protective of her family. Or bossy, depending on the day. It's a toss up.

What kind of art do you create?

I mostly like to draw. I am hoping to branch out a bit more and learn more traditional types of things. As part of the art project this summer, I learned beading, batiking and working with fabrics. I would really like to try some traditional art forms and see if I can mesh them with what I already like to do. And along the idea of creating “gifts”. Not necessarily that I will give them all away as gifts, but I like the purpose that they will be shared with someone.

With your trip to England, what are you most excited about?

Bath and the Roman ruins. I love seeing Roman ruins! I have never been to London, so I am pretty excited about that.

I have noticed that over the past few years, Yoga has kind of become a style on it's own. As a yoga instructor, do you see that as well?

I definitely see that as well. Some of it is kind of neat to see how much more mainstream it has become. Even the fashions and they way they are made. Sometimes, you can wear a yoga top with jeans. Or yoga pants can be worn to do something casual, like going out for coffee.

How would you describe your style?

Whatever I feel like wearing that specific day, will match my mood. I could never decide the day before what I am going to wear. I will wake up and think “OK, this is the kind of mood I am in” and I will dress accordingly. And then I usually throw one bit of color in. And it is usually a scarf.

As a high school teacher, do you think students should be able to wear whatever they want, or have more restrictions on what they can wear?

(Laughing) Now that long shirts are in, and super low rise pants are not, I think it is OK to wear whatever they want. It has gotten a little more respectful in the last year, which is really nice to see. It seems that they are dressing a lot more stylish with out looking too risqué.

I made my first ugly doll!

Ok, so about 10 years ago I got this really ugly green doll made by Scary Stories. I loved this damn doll, for no particular reason other than it was funny looking. And I would always look at it and think "I wonder if I could make something like that".

So then, about a month ago I bought this book called Softies. I was trying to find something I could make that would be just for fun and would at least get my creative juices going a bit. Well, after I started looking into these Softies I found out that there is a huge community out there of folks making these dolls. You can check some out on this blog.

So last night, while I was watching Close Encounters of the Third Kind, I sat and made my first ugly doll. After I was done, I looked at it and giggled. Mission accomplished.

Although Dreyfuss's stuffing is a bit wonky, and the slip stitch is totally in the wrong place, I still like him. I think I will make him some buddies.

Oh, and I figured it out...it cost me about 90 cents to make. If even that. For real.

Ariel

With an air of a classical starlet, Ariel Doss's education and adventures have taken her across the globe. She has two degrees, one in English Literature and another in Religious Studies focusing on Buddhism and East Asian religions. In 2001 she left for Korea to teach English, and was there on and off for five years. Ironically, when Ariel is asked to describe herself, she claims she is quite boring since she spends most of her free time reading, watching movies and spending time with her family.

How do you feel about yourself being voted “best dressed” in High School?

I don't even remember that! I remember I wore a lot of clothing from Value Village. I had some pretty crazy vintage stuff, that I wish I still had. I remember I had this gold lame fabric paisley skirt! Grunge wasn't really my thing, so I tried to do my own thing.

Do you think your travels have inspired you?

The interesting thing I found about living in Korea, is that all the things that were really trendy when I got there, are finally starting to filter through to Canadian fashion. I thought is was really interesting that Japan and Korea are ahead of the curve.

You have a very classic, yet eclectic, sense of style. Where do you think that comes from?

I do like vintage things. I like to take different pieces, and hopefully come up with something original. I look back to the styles of the 30's to 50's and really wish people still dressed like that. If I could wear dresses everyday, I would. I used to work in the film industry, and you could wear really casual clothes. But now that I work in the office setting, it's nice to be able to wear the classic clothes that I like. And the thing about classic styles, is that they will never go out of fashion.

Favorite piece of clothing?

A dress that I bought in Tokyo from Zara. A great white silk dress with black silhouettes of flowers on it and a big black sash. I wore it to a wedding in England.

Where would you like to visit next?

Paris. There is a fashion capital for you.

Although Alison Dean is pretty laid back on her down time, which is filled with reading, music, movies and her family, her education back ground tells a different story. Focusing on literature and photography, she received both a B.F.A in drawing and a B.A in English at the U of R and a M.A. at the University of Guelph. Aside from working at the Mackenzie and a trip to B.C this summer, she will be catching up on some classic Cary Grant and Hitchcock movies.

Considering your interests and background, let’s talk style in Arts and Literature. Which period of art history do you think has influenced style the most?

One that I see pop up a lot is Japanese printmaking. I see it quite a bit in North American and European work, but also a lot of design work is pretty heavily influenced by it. Today I see it in style with Ukiyo-e prints and the defined black lines and colors.

With your interest in portrait photography, were you ever interested in fashion photography?

Yes, I am a huge fashion magazine fanatic! I love the theatrical and rich colors, and even though fashion photography is not very realistic or practical, it still looks really beautiful. I think a lot of movies fit in with that too, like Audrey Hepburn movies or ones where Edith Head did the costume design. For example, when Grace Kelly comes in wearing a specific outfit and that is the whole movie right there.

You have mentioned many older fashion icons and movies stars. Is that something that inspires you?

Yes, I think my favorite styles come from the 40’s and 50’s. Personally I just like them, but I think they have a huge influence on today’s style. And they keep coming back into style over and over again. I have really been enjoying old Hitchcock and Audrey Hepburn movies lately as they are interesting little time capsules. I didn’t used to like old movies, but once I started watching them, I realized how everything refers to them. For example, in Sleepless in Seattle, they always refer to An Affair to Remember. Once you start understanding where it comes from, it all makes everything mean more.

Would you say that there is style in literature?

My biggest influences have come from authors like Jane Austin and Thomas Hardy. My bias is visual in a lot of ways, and that is why I like Thomas Hardy, because his writing was so visual. And Jane Austin has had a huge influence, and it hasn’t diminished at all. People are either influenced by it, or reacting to it, so it still has a really big place in contemporary culture.

With Karla moving to Regina from the west coast a year ago, and Mike originally from Estevan, they now both work at The Exchange ensuring that Regina's music and cultural scene is diverse and thriving. Aside from the “office” work, Mike and Karla are both part of Regina's ten piece indie pop Library Voices and are co-owners of Young Soul Records, which is an operating collective record label which enables them to put out a lot of Saskatchewan based albums.

Music wise, what do you see coming back into style?

Karla: Glam rock. I have been seeing it everywhere

Mike: I think in hip hop there is a throwback to 8 bit sound. It's smart, but on the edge of ironic music programming behind rap songs. I am personally really into that right now.

If you could have anyone on your label, who would it be?

Mike: Rah Rah.

Karla: They are on our label. Our dreams have come true.

Mike: It is really of of the best albums we could have hoped to have put out. We have never had to actively seek out artists because there are so many great bands around here that we would like to be a part of.

What do you think of Regina's music scene?

Karla: There is a lot of good talent here, especially considering the small population. And it is nice because it is such a supportive atmosphere, compared to where I used to be (Vancouver). It is very cold and cutthroat there, but warm and supportive here. Huge difference.

Mike: Everyone is so supportive of the Exchange as well. It is really special to have a place like this, where the audience is supportive and respectful, and they treat it like they are going to see a band in their own parent's basement.

Music obviously influences style. Does it influence either of you?

Karla: I think anyone who isn't trying too hard, on every level, whether it be a small band or huge stadium band. I don't like it if it looks contrived.

Mike: We definitely see a lot of flat irons come through here.

Over the past year at work, Common Weal has been working on the Dewdney Avenue Project. The project brought in 3 Canadian multi-disciplinary artists, who worked with the area of North Central Regina, in relation to the history, area, and circumstances of Dewdney Avenue. There is whole lot more background on this that you can check out here.

One of the final pieces that we created was a brochure which listed events, projects, artist info, images, and a city wide map that illustrated it all for the view. We had Combine design the brochure for us, and we love it. Danielle who worked with us was fantastic, and gave us everything we had hoped for.

If you check out their site, they have so much great work to take a look at. It is well worth the look.
And thank you Combine...for heading back to the prairies.

Born and raised in Regina, Sara moved to Calgary eight years ago. In Calgary she worked with children with special needs and with trauma in women's shelters. Although she loved working with children, she decided to make a career change that brought her and her then, soon to be husband, back to Regina. This past spring she opened Stella and Sway Boutique, and brought a new kind of style to the working class women of Regina. A self proclaimed jeans and t-shirt kind of girl, she loves to dress people up, and now does it full time at her boutique. Although a complete change from what she used to do, she loves it and wouldn't change it for the world.

How did it happen? Working with kids in Calgary, to opening up your own boutique in Regina?

I had always been interested in owning my own business. I was going to purchase a children's clothing shop in Calgary, but I always wanted to be able to create it from the beginning to the end. I wanted it to all be my own creation. And when you work with kids you are always working with so many other people, like parents, therapists and doctors. And even though I had never worked in retail before, it wasn't scary for me, because I knew I could interact well with other people.

What do you think of Regina's market for shops and boutiques?

We have a lot to offer in this city. We have the mixture of contemporary to streetwear. Regina does have a really good mix, and we are really stylish here. We have a lot of influences, which is cool. And it is getting even better now, because there are so many more new shops opening up and offering what big cities have to offer.

If you could have any style icon walk into your store, who would it be?

I love Kate Hudson's style. She can put on jeans, boots, a wrap, and a big belt and she looks fantastic. I love Katie Holmes new sophisticated look which I think is really sexy. And whenever Jennifer Aniston does a dress, it is always really simple, which I think is great. I am a total t-shirt and jeans kind of girl, although I love helping women feel confident and beautiful in what they are wearing.

Compared to many weddings, your wedding style was quite simple.

I didn't want to go full out vintage, but I wanted a dress that was simple, because I knew something different wouldn't look right on me. My husband Ben was wearing a Burberry tie, so with my red shoes and the red and ostrich feathers in my veil, it was kind of a modern vintage look. It was like a romantic comedy of a wedding.

If you could go on any kind of shopping spree, where would you go?

Oh. New York sample sales. Los Angeles sample sales. I would look up Daily Candy, find out where all the sample sales were, and I would be off.

Common Circles: Addressing Violence Through Art

Last October I started working at Common Weal Community Arts as the Southern Artistic Coordinator. And around the same time I started working on the upcoming programming for the next few years. During that period, there was a lot going on in my life and my friends life, dealing with the topics of violence. I think we felt angry/confused/tired/helpless. We felt we needed to actually DO something about it. Because of this, a good friend of mine Danette, who is an artist and teacher, started brainstorming on possible projects that Common Weal could do with this topic.

Fast forward to August, and we have now finished a
workshop series called Common Circles: Addressing Violence Through Art with some fantastic artists (Jori Cachene, Traci Foster and Sherry Farrell Racette). Common Circles was a workshop-based project approaching the issues of violence against women and
families using visual art, creation and voice. Working within themes of independence, generosity, belonging and freedom, the workshops provided an avenue for participants to explore, learn, share and visually represent these ideas in relation to the topics of violence. We also presented the work created and workshop series at the "Missing Women: Decolonization, Third Wave Feminisms, and Indigenous People of Canada and Mexico" at the University of Regina. To finish up the project, we will be working with Combine, to create a book about the project and to pass on the ideas behind the workshops, so schools and organizations can carry on what we have created and facilitated. The book should be done sometime in October...a year later, a full circle.

Thirteen years ago, while going to university and playing with Mrs.Svenson, Matt Johnstone started as a line cook at a little new place called the Cathedral Village Freehouse. Fast forward thirteen years ahead, and he is now the manager and director of operations for the Freehouse, which is now a Regina staple. When Matt does have some rare free time, he plays bass with Bandwagon Device and Johnny Hatch and the lost disciples, and also plans to cook ALL of the food for his own summer wedding.

I see you have the Converse on. Are you a lifelong fan?

These shoes are only about six weeks old but I broke them in at the Iron Maiden show. They were way too white on the toes, so I had to muddy them up. But my first pair of All Stars was when I was 12 yrs old and they were a pair of pink high-tops.

Tell me about the Batman shirt?

I am showing my Batman pride! This is my first Batman shirt I have ever had, except for under-roos. I am pretty sure I had Batman under-roos when I was five years old. So this is a throwback to my five year old under-roo wearing.

With style today, is there anything you think men just shouldn’t wear?

This whole new thing with the headbands. It isn’t that I don’t like it, I just don’t get it. Or very short Adidas sportswear.

Back in the day, anything you have worn that you wish you hadn’t?

Steal toed combat boots. I really wish I had never worn those. I had bought a pair of orange high top Doc Martins when I was sixteen because they were all the “rage”. I think I wore them for six weeks, and never put them on again.

Would you say the Freehouse has a specific “style” of clientele?

It is very casual and individual, which really works. We have anybody and everybody come into the Freehouse. We will have suits sitting next to punk rock kids, and I love that about it. We had someone with a mohawk sitting next to the Mayor the other day. I think Regina is a lot like that, it is a very individualized city. People just do what they want to do, and generally speaking, people are left alone.

NEW POSITION - ARTIST IN RESIDENCE

Common Weal Community Arts Inc., in partnership with the North Central Community Association, is seeking a multidisciplinary community-minded Artist in Residence for one year, starting in September of 2008. The Artist in Residence will spend 50% of the allotted time responding to the community's needs for development in the arts and for the remainder of the time, will pursue his/ her own independent art practice. The artist will be paid a salary of $30,000, plus benefits.

The purpose of this Artist in Residence program is to create new opportunities for the community of North Central Regina that will help facilitate, encourage and increase artistic and cultural involvement, development, diversity and identity. The Artist in Residence will use community art as a tool for social development and to share the collective voice and stories of community members.

The community that the Residency project will focus on will be the North Central area of Regina. North Central is an area with a high level of individuals and families (47%) who are considered to be low income. Half of all of the properties are rental properties and there is a lot of movement in the neighbourhood. A large percentage of the community members are Aboriginal. In the past few years, this area has been discriminated, targeted and was recently deemed "Canada's Worst Neighbourhood" by MacLean's Magazine. What aren't properly represented are the community's involvement, diversity, and cultural history of this community. The North Central Community Organization being one such facility. By working together with the community of North Central Regina to enhance the quality of life by representing, promoting, developing partnerships and unifying the community and its image through effective communication, programs and services, this agency has become the representation of the strength of the community.

The successful applicant:

- Can demonstrate a mature level of achievement in their discipline, will have an established career in the arts, and an understanding of community arts.
- Experience working with both traditional and contemporary art practices. Knowledge of Aboriginal art practices an asset.
- Can work both independently and collectively, and with a variety of age groups and artistic skills.
- Will have excellent communication skills.
- Will be sensitive to community dynamics: social, cultural, and economic.
- Will be able to facilitate and respond to the needs of community by working collectively with other artists and community members.
- Experience working with a variety of artistic practices and techniques.
- Valid drivers license and access to vehicle.

We encourage artists from aboriginal and diverse cultural and creative backgrounds to apply. Deadline for applications is August 25, 2008. Applications should include a current CV/ resume, examples of past creative work, three references, and an example of a community-based arts project created by the applicant.

Common Weal Community Arts links artists and communities to animate long term and positive social change. Common Weal facilitates the production of participatory arts projects, based on creating partnerships between communities and artists, through a philosophy of inclusion and cooperation, and in order to create opportunities and choices for individuals and communities.

The Polymaths

I recently got to spend the morning with four fine musicians, the Polymaths, in a urban mall...stuck in a photo booth.

Many many loonies later, this is what happened. And all I have to say, is that it was the most fun I had loitering in a mall.

With a Women’s Studies degree from the University of Regina already under her belt, Tara Hubich picked up an education degree from U.B.C and then moved back home to Regina. Since her return this past fall she has been teaching with the Regina Public School Board and facilitating an after school program with the Al Ritchie Community Association. Since it is currently the “off season” for the teachers, she has been spending her days finger painting with a group of five to seven year olds during the day, and twiddling her thumbs in the evening trying to pass time till she heads to Korea and Japan for an early fall vacation.

I heard you talking about a “t-shirt” contest. What is that about?

One day at work a co-worker and I noticed we were both wearing cool shirts, so we decided to start a contest to see who could wear the best shirt. But this week is my last week there, so it will only be a contest that ran two weeks. Not a very long contest. But tonight I am wearing a shirt with milk and cookies on it. Milk is high-fiving cookies and it says “Team Work” on it.

Since you are young teacher, how do you find the styles differ from when you were young student?

It is definitely more casual. I think teachers used to be a lot more conservative. And I think this change reflects the attitude in the schools. There is a lot more freedom. But when I sub in high schools, I wear more professional clothing because the level of respect I receive is usually reflected in the way I appear. Especially since I do look younger.

You recently moved back from Nelson, B.C. How did you find the Nelson compared to Regina?

In Nelson, people didn’t care much about dressing up. In the bars, you would never see girls in heels. They wear flip flops, jeans and t-shirts when they go out. People don’t go out trying to impress one another, and they usually end up looking really good because they are happy and not competing with anyone.

You have your Women’s Studies degree as well. Do you think feminism has changed style for women at all?

I think that there is so much sex in society that it unfortunately overrules any sort of feminist dialogue about fashion. But the kind of feminism that I feel I understand, says that women can be comfortable about what they are wearing. It is ok to look sexy, but there needs to be a balance. I think a person who has integrity and is trying to be a good person; it shows through as their style. And that is style that I think is sexy.

Curtain Razors presents The Extras

Curtain Razors in collaboration with the Saskatchewan Filmpool Cooperative and Common Weal Community Arts, is pleased to present international inter-disciplinary performance artists from the UK, Szuper Gallery: Susanne Clausen and Pavlo Keresty, for the performance/installation of "The Extras", August 23, 2008 at 8:30pm, in the Queen Elizabeth II Court, at the front of Regina City Hall.

"The Extras" is a performance/installation referencing the form of a film shoot with local actor Michele Sereda, 20 local background performers and camera, lighting and sound crews. "The Extras" will explore the experiences, stories, and incidences that have happened to real extras on specific Regina film shoots and on films shot in Hollywood and around the world. Contextualizing local film history with world cinema, "The Extras" gives the audience a performer's eye-view of the amazing, and sometimes confusing, contradictory or even absurd world of the people and actors who have worked as background performers.

A 2006 graduate of Ryerson University’s photography program, Nikole Peters applies her documentary style to subjects including sex trade workers, widows and cancer. Since moving back to the city she has worked as a freelance photographer shooting weddings and portraits. Future projects? Nikole wants to find a trucker she can travel across Canada with to photograph truck stops, and a taxidermist who can help her document animal’s life cycles.

What photo project have you been most proud of?

My thesis was a retrospective on my father’s life, which chronicled his whole life and battle with cancer. I photographed my dad even on the day he died and then put it in a book, and then had to talk about it with hundreds of people. Although my teachers thought the project was too personal, I received e-mails from people thanking me [for] doing the project. Nearly everyone has had someone [with] cancer in their life, and can relate to the same emotional connection.

My teachers thought a lot of it was inappropriate too, like my brother smoking a joint at the funeral and my dad wearing a “Fuck Cancer” shirt. But I thought it was the most real.

Do you think photography influences style?

No, I would say style influences photography. If I had to say what kind of “style” I am, I think I am a weird mix between Amy Winehouse, Mary-Kate Olson and Gwen Stefani. But I like things that are classic. I think I usually buy things that aren’t going to go out of style in a year.

You have a lot of tattoos. What is your latest one?

It’s a Latina-style piece that says “nostalgia”. I really like the word nostalgia and I like the idea that it used to be considered an ailment. In the past, when you were homesick or depressed and in the army, they had this physiological sickness called nostalgia which they actually treated with drugs.

Your fiancé is also a tattoo artist. What will the style of your wedding be?

I’m getting married [to tattoo artist Andrew Alexander] in January in Jamaica. I am hoping that the style will be simple, but like a ’40s screen star gone Grecian. Pin curls, red lipstick, black makeup… and on the beach. I’m getting a bracelet made from Hillberg & Berk, a Regina jewellery designer. And I bought a necklace from ETSY that says “Wifey” which I will wear the day after at breakfast.

What do you think you will be wearing when you are 60 years old?

I really want to be like my Grandma Shirley who wears all leopard print, red lipstick, lots of gold accessories and has her hair dyed flaming red.

So the other day I went on a search for my Prada perfume. My last bottle was either lost or stolen, it was my 31st birthday...so I am not putting too much thought in it. Well they didn't have my Prada. So to waste some time, I decided to smell all the million kinds of Chanel that one can buy. I have tried it on before, and was always sad to say that they kind of stank on me. When others wear it, I can trail behind sucking in all that Chanel goodness. But on me...not so much.

Well perhaps it was my lucky day, or my ph balances are changing, or some weird business like that...but I tried some Coco Chanel and fell in lust with my wrist. I have to admit that I kind of smelled like a grandma...perhaps a lot like Coco Chanel herself. An eccentric, worldly, out spoken granny. And I LIKED IT! So a few months from now, when I can finally save the money to buy the damn expensive perfume....I will be the one with her nose on her wrist and a lovely sedated smile on her face.

Coco...you are my new hero.

This weekend I was watching the movie Number 23 and I really like the opening credits...and then my mind just went to work...and I had to stop the movie.

I remember when the movie Se7en came out, I was so floored by the opening credits. Just in awe. And I remember thinking "that is what I want to do". Ok, so I never became a graphic designer...I took the photo route instead. But still to this day, I think the movies opening credits are fantastic. They were done by Kyle Cooper, who I guess has done more than 150 film title sequences, and has been credited with "almost single-handedly revitalizing the main-title sequence as an art form". Well, no frick'n kidding.

This morning I went to by my dad a Father's Day Card and before I even got to the card section....these lovely little gems caught my eye. You see...I love wood. Love it. And all I could think was, "oh my goodness I could refile everything at work with wood grain folders". Completely made my day. So, I just spent the last half of my day refiling every folder I had at the office. But all I have to say is....HOW FUN! I have never been so excited to get something new to file.

The Saddest Boy in the World

So I went and checked out some of Queer City Cinemas tonight. Common Weal (where I work) was one of its sponsors for tonights screenings which were geared towards queer youth. There were some pretty damn fantastic films.

But by far my favorite was a little short by Modern Family Productions and Jamie Travis called the Saddest Boy in the World. It was AMAZING! If there are any film festivals going on in your part of the woods...definitely see if this film is playing. You wouldn't want to miss this one.

So I thought I'd announce it here. Montreal and I are going steady. I am wearing its varsity jacket, its class ring...

I am completely smitten with Montreal, and spend long days staring into its beautiful buildings and nibbling on its croissants. But I am willing to share Montreal with others...I want to shout from the rooftops: "I love this city and I want everyone to know it!"

Ok, so the metaphor stops here, but might I say, I am so proud that tourists are filling the streets of this great city (as annoying as they'll be by Canada Day long weekend, on Victoria Day long weekend, they're still charming), and found myself grinning (perhaps creepily) at the hordes of tourists today.

I love its cheese (which would be gross if I was continuing the 'Montreal-as-human-being' metaphor), I love its buildings, I love its restaurants, and I even love its gentrified used clothing (vintage) stores.

Come to Montreal! I have a futon!

Hotel suite here I come!!!

So, it is my birthday. I am 31. And all I have to say is that I have the best friends EVER.

You see, I have a huge obsession with hotels. I LOVE staying in them. Love love. And this aftenoon, I found out that my peeps booked me into a juccuzi suite at the fancy pancy hotel here in Regina. BEST PRESENT EVER!!!! So, they take me over to the hotel room...it's huge...it's decorated for me...there are treats for me in the bathroom...snacks in the fridge...and all my favorite magazines waiting for me. I don't deserve this. Sigh....

My summer craft project

The first time I ever came across Danny Seo was when he was on HGTV's "She's Crafty". Danny was making these awsome little birdhouses out of old children's books.

These houses have been in the back in my head for a few months now...and I think this will be a summer project for me.

Earth Day, Danny Seo and National Geographic...

Well....so it turns out that it is Earth Day. Happy Earth Day, Earth!

I am not going to list off the million things that I did today that was earth-friendly. Because.....I did drive my car today, I had take out (in what I am sure was not an earth friendly container), and I am sure I did some not so friendly other things.

But...I did recycle a bunch of crap, was conscious about turning the lights off (OK, I actually didn't even turn them on), and tried to learn a few more tips that I can do everyday. I am learning, I am learning!

Learning To Love You More is a project created by artists Miranda July and and Harrell Fletcher. Participants are asked to complete an assignment, which has specific instructions, and then their work is posted on-line. The works may also become part of a presentation, where in the past, have taken place The Whitney Museum in NYC, The Seattle Art Museum in Seattle, and the Wattis Institute in San Francisco CA. I love the concept...

So, I went to the dentist today. I haven't gone in about 10 yrs. Yes, I know, that is bad. But when you are a student forever and then have no benefits....ya kind of "forget" to go to the dentist. And because it had been so damn long since I went, I was kind of terrified of going. But I sucked it up, made an appointment, and dragged my not so clean teeth to the dentist.

And after I spent a good amount of time with the best dental hygenist a wuss like me could ask for, and 2 minutes with the actual dentists....I AM CAVITY FREE! Praise the teeth gods!. Well, my exact words to the doc were "For real?! Are you serious? Oh, thank god".

So now I am thinking I should get some grillz.

Ibi Kaslik

This is novelist Ibi Kaslik.

I recently photographed Ibi for the Prairie Dog. Why? Because she is the writer of the the New York Times bestseller Skinny, she is debuting her second novel Angel Riots, and she is the Regina Public Library Writer In Residence. I would say that is a damn good enough reason.

I have yet to read Angel Riots, but while looking into it, things such as: Montreal, the Stars, love, Broken Social Scene, the prairies, art, family and betrayal all seem to be popping up in the reviews for this "rock and roll novel". (schwing!) But aside from all this....she was great to photograph and just a lovely woman all around.

Last week I took a little trip up to Prince Albert (that would be in Saskatchewan), to visit Judy McNaughton. Judy and I both work at Common Weal Community Arts as Artistic Coordinators. Judy the northern, I the southern. Judy and her husband, Michel Boutin, took me on a little tour of all things P.A.ish, checked out our northern offices and gallery, filled my belly with yummy food, and gave me a tour of their studios. I came home happy and inspired.

The Movement Movement

Last week I met with Jessica Rose, and over coffee we talked about running.

Particularily we talked about The Movement Movement.

According to Jessica and Jenn Goodwin (collaborators and creators), the Movement Movement is "a public art project on the run inviting people to participate in a social movement to run the world’s art institutions, one kilometer at a time. From performances to public events to exhibitions, The Movement Movement is a running narrative mobilizing participants to 'Run with Art'."

I love it. Pretty much they are bringing various groups together and "running the establishment". Love it.

On April 21st...if you just so happen to be in Toronto...they are presenting the screening of the "Run the Royal Ontario Museum". You can check out more info about it here. Go see it.

I would like to introduce you to Billy. This is Billy. Billy is Holland Lop and is about 7 yrs old. He is my "son". He likes to drag socks around in circles, lay against things, sit under the bed, eat newspapers and follow his "mom" around. He is the best bunny ever. Ask anyone.

So now that we have that straight.

This morning I was giving Billy a carrot and gave him a little pet on the head. I noticed that he was getting his twice yearly mohawk. And low and behold...when I gave it a little tug...it came right off. IT'S SHEDDING TIME!!! Aside from the fact that I will be covered in rabbit hair for the next month...that means...SPRING IS ON THE WAY. Forget the groundhog...according to Billy...we can start dusting off the old flip flops!
