Lisa Congdon

Lisa Congdon is a San Francisco mixed media artist and illustrator. And her work just floats my boat. You can check out her site here and her blog here.

Why does she float my boat: her use of wood, illustrations, text and creativity. Paintings, crafts, sculpture, illustration...it is all there.

enjoy

Stella and Sway

This is Sara Johnson. And this is Stella and Sway.

Luckily for Regina, Stella and Sway is a new boutique that had its grand opening tonight, with a little champagne and cupcake fun to boot. The Covet, Elroy, Kensie, and Kersh lines can all be found there. The shop and clothing are gorgeous, eco-friendly and just down right fantastic.

The thirtysomethings of Regina thank you, Sara. Congrats!

hannah banana

This is Hannah. Hannah is my 12 yr old niece. Hannah rocks.
Why does Hannah rock? Because this is her surfing for the first time in Hawaii.
Years of dance and raising her as a beach bum totally paid off.

the world according to Billy

I would like to introduce you to Billy. This is Billy. Billy is Holland Lop and is about 7 yrs old. He is my "son". He likes to drag socks around in circles, lay against things, sit under the bed, eat newspapers and follow his "mom" around. He is the best bunny ever. Ask anyone.

So now that we have that straight.

This morning I was giving Billy a carrot and gave him a little pet on the head. I noticed that he was getting his twice yearly mohawk. And low and behold...when I gave it a little tug...it came right off. IT'S SHEDDING TIME!!! Aside from the fact that I will be covered in rabbit hair for the next month...that means...SPRING IS ON THE WAY. Forget the groundhog...according to Billy...we can start dusting off the old flip flops!

Happy Easter....

glass plates

Two of my friends and old classmates, Marta Wilkosz and Jeff Way, have been working on a series of glass plate images for the past while. They are beautiful and nastalgic. They will be exhibiting them at The Club in Regina in July/August. But until then....enjoy!

You can check out more of their work

Thank you Marta and Jeff, you continue to inspire...

Sondre Lerche

So I rented the movie Dan in Real Life. Good movie. But aside from the movie....the music was lovely. Perfectly suited the movie. The sound, the lyrics...lovely. Nothing contrived, or too hollywood, or too indie. It was just perfect and organic.

The music was composed by Sondre Lerche and performed by him and Regina Spektor. Lovely, lovely...lovely. Not enough lovlies to explain.

Modern Nature...is my song for March....enjoy.

two years old...and still pertinent

Tuesday, June 06, 2006 : cowboys and crushes

i had a photo shoot today. a story about these city girls who move out to the farm or ranch....and well....farm or ranch stuff.

so, we drove up in the truck (had to fit in you know) and met these three different families. i took some pics. we had coffee and talked about japan. i had a staring contest with a cow. i made friends with a pony named strawberry. i tried not to think about the fact that one of the horses could step on my head and in an instant kill me. i met a 5 year old who had wore the best cowgirl outfit i have ever seen (cowboy hat, button up with shiny horses on it, big rodeo belt buckle and red cowboy boots) and had been riding a horse by herself since she was 2. we all gushed about how beautiful the saskatchwan sky is. found a laundromat/carwash. ate a whole lot of beef jerky. went in my first dairy farm. managed to not step in a big pile of steaming poop (thank god, because i had flip flops on). and climbed up to the top of a barn filled with hay, and reminisced about "footloose". it was a nice day.

and there was a special little extra bonus to the day. i found out that i have a thing for cowboys. oh, ya....thats right....cowboys. they were all nice, and endearing, and happy....and very "man"ly.
perhaps this new crush is because my assumed "type" is becoming a bit more blurred and confusing. i think i need something new. i tried the troubled artist....but they seem to never have their "life" together and i waste all my money making sure they eat. the hardcore....generally, in my experience...a stoner or player. and im done with all that. the emotional.....ok guys, we all got baggage, lets get on with it. the feminine man.....lets not even go there. or the mr. man.....well, im still trying to figure that one out and i think they are too. and yes i know, i don't really need anyone to be complete and all that stuff. but come on....i do want to get old with someone. i can be independent and still want to share my life with someone.

so....i'm thinking i should find me a nice cowboy and move to the farm. you know, try something new. and besides, i think the cowboy is kind of an ideal man. has a very physical job...um...hello! does something he loves. and you know they do, because the business can be the shits, so they must really love it. they are all quiet and shy in their big hat and boots....very endearing. and they are happy. genuinely happy. and plus, when i get annoyed with him, i can go send him out to the field to work.

so i'm going to find me a cowman and do a little rolling in the hay. giddy up!

love stanley (aka carey)

treuth or consequenses

The following is an email I just received from my dad, who is currently driving through the states with my mom, bro and sis-in-law. The following is what happens when you give a lap top to a 70 yr old, who can hardly read without his glasses, continues to lose his glasses, doesn't give a rats ass about spelling or punctuation and is stuck in some "flea bag" hotel in the middle of nowhere.

it is 130 mon pm and we are in tucson we had a pretty goo d trip except we ran into a storm in denver. we could only drive 30 mph. drove like that for 5 hours. traffic was pretty good for the most.it was very very windy on the road first night stayed at cheyenee. 2nd night was at treuth or consequenses. in some flea bag hotels. rick was in charge of hotels but he got them cheap with his hotel cards. saved a lot of cash. big semi flipped in front of us . rick has a room , but i ma still waiting for mine . the guest was suppossed to be out by now but wont leave. he wants to satay another day what the hell!!! they are going to get me another even better room hopefully. i will send email update on room.

I do have the oddest family, but they are still pretty cool in my books.
